Fenugreek is known for
being able to clear up mucus conditions and fever. The seeds are antiseptic and also help with catarrh. It prevents
heartburn and the mucilage in fenugreek heals a sore throat. The leaves can be
dried and used to make a herbal tea. Seeds are also used to make tea. Add one teaspoon of
fenugreek seeds into a cup of boiling water, leave covered for five minutes.
Strain and add honey.
When used as a gargle, add
two tablespoons of seeds in a cup of water and leave covered for ten to
fifteen minutes.
Fenugreek seeds are easy to
sprout. Sprouts are very nutritious eaten raw. Use in salads, smoothies and
sandwiches. Fenugreek slows down the
rate of sugar absorption into the blood and is rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants neutralize the free radicals which are the cause of many
degenerative diseases.Fenugreek contains diosgenim which increases milk production in breastfeeding mothers. Cumin seeds also help in stimulating milk production and are a rich source of iron. Soak cumin seeds in a glass of water and drink once a day.
To Make Fenugreek Tea
Crush a teaspoon of
fenugreek seeds and place in a cup. Add boiling water and some loose leaves(optional) Cover and let stand for five minutes. Strain and add honey and
lemon.
To Make Cumin Tea
Place one teaspoon of cumin seeds in a cup and add boiling water. Let it simmer for a few minutes then cover the cup and leave for five minutes. Drain and add honey to taste.
